The goal is for postdocs to learn the material alongside the regular participants but to also co-facilitate the classes with the instructors. The 2021 LEAPS postdoc cohort will receive mentoring and extra weekly training from instructors about the core concepts of each week and how to teach it. They will be asked to co-teach/lead certain portions of selected classes, and assist with grading selected pre-class assignments. The courses will meet Tuesday/Thursdays 9:30-11am EST via zoom. The mentoring session will be for 1h on Mondays.

Please send questions to mitleaps at gmail.com<mailto:mitleaps at gmail.com>

Participate in a research study about hiring and mentoring practices for postdoctoral researchers

You are invited to participate in a research study about hiring and mentoring practices for postdoctoral researchers, and specifically how these practices may impact postdocs from underrepresented minority groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. This research is specifically interested in experiences of postdocs and faculty who identify as members of URM groups as defined by the National Science Foundation: Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, and American Indians or Alaska Natives.

If you are interested in participating in this study, you may complete one short, 8-question demographic survey found here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdS5bB7AzCvcvSzJh0JWsh0gyyNI9xuEdt-cC78uThqyayC9Q/viewform>. If selected to participate, you will complete one, 60-minute one-on-one interview with Emily Traw (a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Department of Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership). She would like to record the interview so that she can transcribe the audio and code the information you provide. This data will be used for her dissertation research and kept in a de-identified file on a University of Illinois web-based application. The PI of this study is Dr. Yoon Pak, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign IRB has classified it as exempt.

Participation is completely voluntary. If you are interested in participating, please complete the form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdS5bB7AzCvcvSzJh0JWsh0gyyNI9xuEdt-cC78uThqyayC9Q/viewform?usp=sf_link> and she will follow up after receiving your responses.
