Dear MIT Postdocs,
The MIT Postdoctoral Association is inviting you to join Making the Cut - Job Searching During a COVID-19 Economy: A Panel Discussion.
In the context of academic hiring at a standstill across the nation, on June 9th, the MIT Postdoctoral Association will host a panel discussion on academic hiring and new strategies for securing a position under COVID-19.  The "Great Recession" led to a sharp decline in job listings, but the recovery appeared to have occurred very quickly. Our current COVID-19 environment is even more challenging than previous recessions and recovery is expected to be slower because this pandemic has both economic and healthcare consequences. Thus, this panel will share experiences, knowledge, questions, and strategies for the upcoming job seeking challenges ahead.
The panelists will include MIT professors from different disciplines who back then were recent graduates and a guest professor from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Among other topics, we will consider tools and techniques that today's job seeker should be aware of and use to find that next position.  In discussion will be the effects of the current economic crisis on hiring, including interviews, presentations, networking opportunities, and professional development. Our objective is to support post-docs in their efforts to adjust their expectations in terms of the positions they will seek and the strategies they will use in this intensified competitive environment.
