As you think about your goals for the fall, please make time to attend a workshop that can help you advance your career. Presented by MIT Career Advising and Professional Development, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Research.
* Industry Job Search Thu Sep 12th 1:30pm – 3:00pm Loc. E19-202
Wondering how to mount a successful industry job search in a highly competitive job market? This workshop will discuss important elements of preparing a strong communications package which includes your Resume and Cover Letter. Topics of this workshop will include Lifelong Career Planning Process, things to consider during job search, what skills employers want, self-assessment considerations, establishing SMART goals, sample job transition plan, and networking & other job search methods. Open to all Students, Postdocs and Alums

* How to Work a Career Fair Wed Sep 18th 1:30pm – 3:00pm Loc. 1-190 Prep for Fall Career Fair
Many people are overwhelmed when attempting to navigate a career fair with many employers. This workshop will provide tips and strategies on how be effective during the upcoming Career Fair on Sep 20th. You will learn what to do in preparation for the fair, what to do at the fair, and what to do after the fair. The fair is an excellent opportunity to connect with employers – come and create a strategy that will help you in this competitive employment environment! Open to Students, Postdocs & Alums.
* Develop a Meaningful Elevator Pitch Thursday Sep 19th 1:30pm – 3:00pm Loc. 3-133 Prep for Your Job Searches
Frist impressions are lasting, and your Elevator Pitch is often your response to “Tell me about yourself” or “Tell me why you are interested in this job? A good response can open doors for you, and can create a lasting impression on prospective hiring committees, employers, recruiters, colleagues, and other professionals within your discipline. Come and learn how to create a great Elevator Pitch. Open to Students, Postdocs & Alums.
* Art of Behavioral Interviewing Tuesday Sep 24th 1:30pm – 3:00pm Loc. 3-133
While your technical skills will get you the interview, it is your behavioral attributes that will get you the job. This session will discuss preparation and strategies for a successful interview. Research shows that the top 4 of 5 career competencies employers seek in candidates are behavioral. In addition, sample behavioral interview questions will be provided along with tips on how to answer those tough questions.
