Dear Postdocs,

Please take a few minutes to take this survey. It is important that we have a large number of participants because otherwise we will not have the access to the results and we can not advocate for what matters to you. Thank you in advance!

2019 National Postdoctoral Survey

Are you interested in winning a travel award, and in sharing your experiences as a postdoc to a large national postdoc survey? A newly published study<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.pnas.org_content_116_42_20910&d=DwMGaQ&c=Nd1gv_ZWYNIRyZYZmXb18oVfc3lTqv2smA_esABG70U&r=7P8SmnJFWraK4XdFL9-nxLFKtn87gkyg1QpsN5ENS-U&m=3tM0HrJ33DrURgit-9G2gUK_7cgyy_7u37GqCyDFr8s&s=01smb44pWExyAWzB6zwjEIBnsHVzEu2seEaZXhfG7wA&e=> has demonstrated the crucial role of postdocs<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.insidehighered.com_news_2019_10_11_study-2Dsays-2Dwhen-2Dit-2Dcomes-2Deveryday-2Dmentoring-2Dand-2Dtraining-2Dsciences-2Dpostdocs-2Dare-2Dnew&d=DwMGaQ&c=Nd1gv_ZWYNIRyZYZmXb18oVfc3lTqv2smA_esABG70U&r=7P8SmnJFWraK4XdFL9-nxLFKtn87gkyg1QpsN5ENS-U&m=3tM0HrJ33DrURgit-9G2gUK_7cgyy_7u37GqCyDFr8s&s=Uqrwy1AeRoNZU6MZfnRwVSCnRdo6piZbfpRHRUi65c4&e=> in lab culture and in the training and mentorship experiences of graduate students, and we hope to capture your voice to draw attention to the unique needs of the postdoc population and reinforce the importance of training, policies, and compensation for postdocs.
All responses are anonymous, and participants have a chance to enter a drawing for a $500 travel award to a scientific meeting! We have just reached 5,700 responses from postdocs so far, and we hope to match our 2016 response rate of over 7,000 U.S. postdocs. For each additional 1,000-respondent benchmark we reach, we will give away a travel award, so get your responses in now to increase your chance of winning a prize! The official close date of the survey will be December 15th.
The 2019 National Postdoc Survey <https://postdocsurvey.uchicago.edu/> was conceived and developed by postdocs to benefit all members of the postdoctoral community, and is a follow-up to our very successful 2016 National Postdoc Survey. <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__elifesciences.org_articles_40189&d=DwMGaQ&c=Nd1gv_ZWYNIRyZYZmXb18oVfc3lTqv2smA_esABG70U&r=7P8SmnJFWraK4XdFL9-nxLFKtn87gkyg1QpsN5ENS-U&m=3tM0HrJ33DrURgit-9G2gUK_7cgyy_7u37GqCyDFr8s&s=yINbpykr9PvZ6ECbi5RoAPW1qPHJ4c47N4ZWgeHOgrQ&e=> Since 2016, changes in postdoc policies have been implemented, including an increase in the postdoctoral salary levels set by NIH. An updated survey is needed now in order to capture the current experiences of postdoc fellows and scholars, and inform those who advocate for policy on behalf of postdocs.

Thank you very much for your participation, and please forward this important survey to your postdoc colleagues!
