The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to Canada's economic, social and research-based growth.
The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is to:

  *   attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally
  *   develop their leadership potential
  *   position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow

WHO MAY SUBMIT:

Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are not in a tenure track position; who have or will have received a Ph.D.; Ph.D. equivalent or health professional degree between September 15, 2015 and September 30, 2019 (inclusively) from a Canadian Institution; and will have received the degree before the start of the fellowship.

Applicants who have not fulfilled all requirements for their degree at the time of application must submit proof no later than October 15, 2019.

ELIGIBILITY:

Fellowships at non-Canadian Institutions:
MIT is only eligible to accept Banting Fellowships under the following conditions as a non-Canadian Institution: the applicant is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and he/she has received his or her PhD (or equivalent) from a Canadian university.
Fellowships at Canadian Institutions:
Applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who have received their PhD (or equivalent) from a non-Canadian institution
  or
Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
Must hold their fellowship at a Canadian institution. If you meet either of the above conditions and are interested in this fellowship program, please contact a Canadian institution where you want to pursue this fellowship directly to submit a proposal.
Please note that applicants who currently hold or have held agency-specific (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) awards at the postdoctoral level are eligible to apply to the 2017-18 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program only if the term of that funding officially ends on or before September 30, 2018 and prior to the start of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.
*Eligibility may be extended if an applicant's career was interrupted due to parental leave; illness; health-related family responsibilities, or mandatory military service.

Proposals due to sponsor: 20:00 EDT September 19, 2018

Internal Proposals must be received by August 13th in order to provide adequate time for committee review and selection, as well as preparation of the required Institutional letter of support.

Applicants selected for MIT endorsement will receive the required Institutional Letter of Endorsement for inclusion in their application package.  Any questions regarding this letter should be directed to vpr-contact at mit.edu<mailto:vpr-contact at mit.edu>.

Please note all applications/proposals must be submitted to OSP for review because the faculty host and MIT are making a commitment.

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for holding a Banting Fellowship at MIT should email the following proposal materials to vpr-contact at mit.edu<mailto:vpr-contact at mit.edu> by August 13, 2017 for review and consideration of an Institutional endorsement.


*         Cover Page including applicant name, contact information, DLC, current citizenship status, name of degree granting institution, date degree was conferred, and the Canadian Institute/Council to which you are applying

*         Two to three sentences describing your research in general

*         Brief Research Proposal (2 page max)

*         Biosketch (2 page maximum)

*         Brief email or letter from your prospective faculty host/supervisor confirming that the you will be accepted as a postdoc in his/her lab if awarded a Banting Fellowship.

*         Supervisor's endorsement statement of synergy between his/her interests and background, the Institute's strategic priorities, and the applicants proposed research program.

*         Email confirmation from DLC Administrative Officer confirming the applicant will be appointed as a postdoc if awarded a Banting Fellowship.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Without exception, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships:
*         are tenable only at the institution which supported the original application for the program
*         must be taken up no earlier than April 1st and no later than October 1st following the year of application
*         are for two years
*         can only be held once in a lifetime
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships selection committee is a multidisciplinary committee, and applications should be written with a non-specialist research audience in mind.
