*MIT-PDA goes to Acadia!*
MIT Post-doctoral Association is happy to announce a trip to the wilderness
in Acadia, Maine. Its time for everyone to get away from the city and MIT
madness for a couple of days and enjoy the nature at its finest @ Acadia
National Park.
What: CAMPING!!
When: 16th to 18th of June
Time: Start 2 PM on the 16th from MIT and back around 5 PM on 18th
Where: Acadia National Park (https://www.nps.gov/acad/index.htm)
Price: 25 USD (not refundable)
We will leave MIT around 2 PM in rented cars and set out for a ~5 h drive
to the Park. Upon arrival, we will pitch our tents, have a bonfire and
enjoy the northern wilderness. On Saturday, there are plenty opportunities
for outdoor activities, like hiking, biking, climbing, bird watching, etc.(
https://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/outdooractivities.htm). On Sunday,
we have to leave the camp sites at 10 AM, but individual groups can stay in
the park for as long as they want. If you need gear, the MIT outing club
MITOC (http://mitoc.mit.edu/

was so kind to give us a special permission to rent gear for the trip from
them. The rental has to be done by each person individually or in small
groups, but will be paid by the PDA (basic equipment only). Needless to say
that it is better if you bring your own gear to make sure you enjoy the
camping most.
RSVP: http://mit.universitytickets.com/w/event.aspx?id=663&cid
What is covered: Cars, gas, camp site, National Park entry fee, food, basic
gear rental from MITOC.

sleeping bag, stove and cooking utensils), good shoes, sun screen, hat,
water bottles, rain gear, cooking utensils incl. a pot (not rentable at
MITOC).
IMPORTANT NOTES
- *We need 2 drivers for each car, so please indicate if you can drive
while you RSVP*. The drivers need to pick up the car having a driver’s
license, ID or passport (for foreigners), and credit card ready. No charges
will be applied to the credit card, but Budget Rental requires it.
- Liability waivers need to be signed, so the PDA or MIT is not liable for
anything during the trip.
- Please be reasonable with your packing since we have limited space in the
cars.
If the RSVP is closed and you cannot buy a ticket anymore, but still would
like to go, please send an email to pda-community at mit.edu (Subject:
“PDA-Acadia”) indicating that you want to be on the backup list.
