MICRO RITMIA

Hosted by the MIT-PDA

The band MICRO RITMIA from Mexico is in town and we could convince them to
play an exclusive show at MIT. Ernesto and his band will perform their
music in the Gillian Auditorium (66-110) and will mesmerize you with their
high speed percussions, their multi rhythmic guitar and bass lines, and
their custom made instruments. This will  push the borders of modern music
to a new border of speed and complexity.

BPDA Networking Pub Night of 2016

Hosted by the BPDA in collaboration with the MIT-PDA

Postdocs, join us for a fun night of drinks and informal networking!  We'll
have representatives from 20 local companies, and counting, that
traditionally hire PhD's (some who are actively hiring!) and who can speak
about their experiences on the job market and in their current jobs.

The PDA offers Postdoc Orientation Sessions open to all postdocs at MIT.

StartMIT Info Session

Hosted by MIT Innovation Initiative, Department of Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science, School of Engineering, Dean's Office

Spend IAP learning what it takes launch a startup, make a good pitch,
develop your funding strategy, contribute to a successful team or company,
and more at StartMIT. In this 2.5 week class, students work closely with
our team of entrepreneurs and innovators, including MIT Prof. Bob Langer,
the most cited engineer in history, Mike Evans, Cofounder of Grubhub, and
Leslie Dewan, Cofounder and CEO of Transatomic Power. Some students will
also have the opportunity to participate in a spring break trip to the Bay
Area. StartMIT will help students develop ideas, no matter how big or

Rube Goldberg device. Whether you are a novice or master builder we'll have
the supplies you need to construct your link. At the end of the evening we
will connect all of the devices together and set off one giant chain

Basics of Grant Writing

Hosted by the Office of the Vice President for Research

Speaker: Dr. Sonal Jhaveri, Science Program Director, Postdoc and Graduate
Student Affairs Office, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Jhaveri's talk on
"Basics of Grant Writing" will focus on NIH applications, but the basic
principles she emphasizes are applicable to all types of grant writing. Dr.
Jhaveri is an MIT alumna (BS, MS). She received her PhD from Harvard
University, has been Principal Investigator on a number of grants from NIH,
NSF and other private foundations, has co-authored 60 professional
articles, and has consulted on a number of science and medical writing
projects. She teaches Science Communication and Language Skills to graduate
and medical students as well as to postdocs at MIT and Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute.

Ski Trip

Hosted by the MIT-GSC

The Ski Trip is open to all MIT graduate students and post-docs. The trip
includes 3 days of skiing, boarding and frolicking. Smugglers’ Notch
consists of three mountains (Morse, Sterling, and Madonna), and ranks among
the finest ski resorts in New England with plenty of trails for all levels
of skiing and boarding. A system of 8 lifts will take skiers and boarders
from The Village and lodging area to 78 trails along the three mountains.
With forecasts of a snowy winter, we're super excited to bring MIT up to
Smugglers’ Notch this year. So, save the date! All the details are on the
