Join us for a seminar with Dr. Allyson Evans, MIT alum and Senior 
Scientific Editor at Molecular Cell, on empowering women in the field of 
scientific editing and communication. Speaker Bio: Allyson has been an 
editor with Cell Press at Molecular Cell since 2010.  She received her 
Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where she 
studied mechanisms of neuronal apoptosis, followed by postdoctoral work 
at MIT examining the roles of Sirtuins in aging and disease with Dr. 
Leonard Guarente.  As an editor, the best part of her day is flipping 
through the newly submitted papers over a cup of coffee.  She doesn’t 
mind that her “Eureka!” moments are now lived vicariously through 
others, and is passionate that science is seen as fashionable and 
mainstream by future generations.

This interactive workshop will cover simple and practical strategies to 
resolve conflicts and work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and 
collaborators in an academic environment. Participants will learn the 
basic principles of assertive communication in order to develop 
long-term professional relationships at the workplace and to mentor 
other researchers effectively.
About Dora Farkas: Dr. Dora Farkas received her Bachelor'€™s in Chemical 
Engineering and her Ph.D. in Biological Engineering both from MIT. Dora 
won an NRSA research grant from NIH and completed a postdoctoral 
fellowship at Tufts Medical School as a principal investigator on 
clinical trials. She also worked for several years in the pharmaceutical 
industry as a Senior Scientist in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics. 
Dora is currently a thesis and career coach for graduate students and 
postdoctoral fellows. She is also the founder of 
www.FinishYourThesis.com, a community site that has helped thousands of 
graduate students finish their theses since 2009.
