*Social Media for the Job Search *
*Wednesday, January 21, 1:00-2:00pm, 4-257 *TODAY**

candidate. What kind of a message does your online presence send? Learn
how to use social media to make you a more desirable job candidate,
brand yourself, and tap your networks to find out about more
opportunities. This workshop is open to undergraduates, graduate

*Persuading Others, featuring Jean-luc Doumont*
*Thursday, January 22, 2:00-4:00pm, 10-250*
Persuasion skills are a critical asset for any career: We must convince
employers to hire us, get the boss to let us start a project, or get
coworkers to help out. Persuading others offers a rational approach to
it: it covers how to use personal/organizational power, how to deploy
tactics on four different human planes, and how to harness basic social
influences to get other people to accede more easily to our requests.

*Women in STEM (panel)*
*Tuesday, January 27, 3:00-4:30pm, 4-153*
In Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), women continue to
be underrepresented despite increased efforts to expose women and girls
to the STEM field. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s
Report, Women in STEM: A Gender Gap to Innovation, women represent only
about 25% of workers in STEM and earn 14% less than what men in the
field earn. In addition, women experience unique challenges throughout
their careers that differ from their male counterparts, such as lack of
mentorship and work/family life balance, etc. Come learn from our
panelist how they have succeeded in their respective disciplines, what
challenges they faced along the way, and what special issues you will
need to consider as a woman in STEM. Advanced registration requested via

*Converting Your CV to a Resume for Industry*
*Thursday, January 29, 3:00-4:30pm, 3-133*
If you are considering exploring Industry positions, you will need to
have a resume that effectively positions you for this path. This
workshop presented by Bob Dolan will discuss the process of converting
your 4-6 page CV into a 2 page resume for industry, and creating a
document that effectively targets the Hiring Manager. Can your resume
survive a 15 second scan and still get into the YES pile? Discussions
will surround the strategies of effective messaging and how to be
"on-point" with your written communication. Actual MIT PhD/Postdoc
resumes will be provided as handouts. Advanced registration requested
via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student**
