Dear MIT Postdocs,

It is Christmas week and only eleven days until New Year's Eve!
Although we are a very diverse bunch of people with very different cultures and religions and thus only some of us celebrating Christmas, I encourage you to take a step back and look back on this year...on the good and bad things that happened, on all your achievements (and I am sure that it is much more than you think) and the people you met during the year.

We wish you a wonderful Holiday season, some relaxed days and a great start in 2016!

Postdoc Orientation Sessions:

After a first trial run last summer, the PDA now offers Postdoc Orientation Sessions open to all postdocs at MIT. Topics covered include:

  *   Data on postdoc population at MIT
  *   MIT oversight of postdocs
  *   Defining postdoc expectations
  *   Differences between fellows and associates
  *   PDA structure and initiatives
  *   How to get involved
The sessions will be typically the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 12pm (45-60min) in E19-306. Lunch will be provided.
The dates for the next six months are as follows: Jan 4, Jan 25, Feb 1, Feb 22, Mar 7, Mar 21, Apr 4, Apr 25, May 2, May 16, June 6, June 20

[[GLIMPSE logo]]Episode 5: Dr. Will Porter is a postdoctoral associate in Prof. Colette Heald's group. Will is a physicist studying how weather patterns affect air quality. We discuss Will's journey from comparative literature to teaching in Japan and culminating at MIT. We also discuss the weather (!), the importance of scientific fluency, bioenergy crops, and what city is most prone to bad air quality!

Independent Activities Period (IAP) 2016
For over four decades, IAP has provided members of the MIT community (students, faculty, staff, and alums) with a unique opportunity to organize, sponsor and participate in a wide variety of activities, including how-to sessions, forums, athletic endeavors, lecture series, films, tours, recitals and contests. The topics are endless, including engineering, skill development (presentations, teaching, communication, leadership, research), patents, start-ups, data management, figure skating, dancing, music, and much more.
