Dear Graduate Students and Postdocs:

_MOOC on STEM Teaching (online course)_

We'd like to announce an exciting opportunity taking place this fall.
/An Introduction to Evidenced-Based Undergraduate STEM Teaching/, an
open, online course for those preparing for future faculty and higher
education teaching careers in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics is being offered by our colleagues in the Center for the
Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) Network. The
online course runs for 7 weeks from Oct. 6 -- Nov. 23. Detailed course
description and registration information can be found here:
https://www.coursera.org/course/stemteaching. *_NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN MIT
COURSE_*. Course registration and management occurs through Coursera.

_MOOC Supported Local Learning Community (on-campus discussion group for
online course participants)_

MIT's Teaching and Learning Lab will be facilitating a local learning
community around this course for those wishing to deepen their
experience through individual and small group active learning exercises.
The learning community will meet on campus from 11:30am-1:00pm every
Wednesday for the duration of the online course. Learning community
discussions will focus on online content presented in the previous week.
The first meeting will take place on Wed, Oct. 15 and the last meeting
will take place on Wed, Nov. 26. In order to have rich and continuing
discussions on teaching and learning, we ask that learning community
*registrants commit to regularly attending the Wednesday sessions**. If
you are interested in joining the MIT local learning community, please
complete the online registration form:
http://tll.mit.edu/registration-mooc-supported-local-learning-community.
The size of the learning community is limited. Participants will be
accepted on a first come, first served basis.

*While participants in the online course can acquire a "Statement of
Accomplishment" from Coursera, there is no
documentation/award/certificate for participation in the MIT local
learning community.

If you have questions about joining the local learning community, please
contact Leann Dobranski (leann at mit.edu <mailto:leann at mit.edu>).
