Hi All,
We are excited to share the following two opportunities that have been expanded this year with funding from the MIT Innovation Initiative<http://innovation.mit.edu/>:
The Translational Fellows Program (TFP)<http://www.rle.mit.edu/translational/> is a competitive, nomination-based, year-long postdoc program that funds its fellows for a-day-a-week, providing them the opportunity to pursue commercialization of a technology that originated in MIT research. The program provides mentoring resources, integrated conflict-of-interest (COI) management and other support to help contain risk and maximize the opportunity to create a new venture. The TFP empowers postdocs to lead commercialization planning efforts, facilitating the launch of a successful commercial venture. You can read more about the program in this recent MIT News Article<https://newsoffice.mit.edu/2014/translational-fellows-program-expands-1004>. The application deadline is October 10.
In its pilot year, the goal of the <https://www.dropbox.com/s/okf2k04uiqkexli/IMPACT%20Post-Doc%20Program%20PILOT%2010.06.14_x.docx?dl=0> MIT IMPACT Program<https://www.dropbox.com/s/8900okott9aau8y/IMPACT%20Post-Doc%20Program%2010_8_14_PILOT%20%282pg%29.pdf?dl=0> is for postdocs to develop skills (including technical, organizational, entrepreneurial and leadership) and professional networks that better prepare them for careers inside and outside of academia, through an experience that challenges them to explore and defend the real-world impact of their research. Impact may range from basic research that enables future experiments to later stage projects that may be translated through links with industry or the formation of entrepreneurial ventures. Embedded in a seminar and coaching approach, participants will leave with a clear pitch articulating the potential impact of their research, a ‘personal pitch’ for the applicability of their own skills and a personal professional development plan. The application deadline is October 22.
These opportunities complement the ongoing activities and support for postdocs provided by the Office of the Vice President for Research. We look forward to a great year!
Best,
Steve
