Dear Postdocs

The objective of the MIT Innovation Initiative (to be formally launched in October) is to provide enhanced programming, resources and support for MIT community members to turn research and ideas into impactful applications. Over the past few months we have heard that many post-docs desire increased educational and career development opportunities related to innovation and entrepreneurship. As a first step, the Innovation Initiative is partnering with MIT Sloan’s Executive MBA Program to host an ‘MIT Post-doc/EMBA Innovation Teams Weekend’ event September 6-7. In addition, if there is sufficient interest we will host an Introduction to Entrepreneurial Strategy Workshop for post-docs in the week preceding the event.

The event will focus on the evaluation of new ideas for “Innovation-driven enterprises” (IDEs). IDEs encompass not only new technologies but also innovations in process and business models. Teams will go through at least one cycle of testing key assumptions about the value proposition of their potential idea. The objective for the weekend is for teams to have clearly articulated next steps they could take to pursue their idea, if they are interested.

(Note: Post-doc ideas do not necessarily need to be related to their research.)
