"*Global Young Scientists Summit @ One-North: An International Meeting 
of Bright Young Researchers, Nobel Laureates and Eminent Scientific 
Leaders"*

*January 18-23, 2015, in Singapore*


The Global Young Scientists Summit at one-north (GYSS at one-north) is a 
gathering of young researchers (primarily PhD students and post-docs) 
from all over the world, with internationally eminent science and 
technology leaders (‘speakers’) in Singapore. The Summit will discuss 
the latest advances in science & technology, and how research could be 
harnessed to address major global challenges. It is a multi-disciplinary 
Summit, covering topics ranging from chemistry, physics and medicine to 
mathematics, computer science and engineering.


MIT has been asked to nominate *a total of five participants* made up of 
3 PhD students *and 2 postdocs* to attend the National Research 
Foundation (NRF) of Singapore International Summit:

The nomination process is being coordinated by the Office of the Vice 
President for Research (for postdocs) and the Office of the Dean for 
Graduate Education (for graduate students).

*NRF will cover all local expenses only; participants or their research 
advisors are responsible for airfare*.

*Eligibility*:

  * Full time PhD student at MIT, or POSTDOC under age 35
  * Fields: Multi-disciplinary (Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Medicine,
    Mathematics, Computer Science, Technology/Engineering); focus is on
    use-inspired research to address major global challenges
  * Demonstration of passion and interest in research
  * Strong organizational support, preferably recommendation letter from
    academic advisor or supervisor
  * Possession of good English skills for active discussion and
    engagement with peers and speakers, demonstrated strong academic
    achievement in area of research, assessed within the top 5-10
    percent of cohort

Postdocs: Please send the following materials (in 1 pdf file) to *Debra 
Martin, debra at mit.edu <mailto:debra at mit.edu>, by Wednesday, August 20, 
2014.*

  * Cover letter as to why this opportunity would benefit you
  * CV
  * Half page research summary
  * Letter of recommendation and support from faculty advisor *(please
    indicate agreement to pay for airfare and source of funding)*

  If I receive more than 2 applications, the MIT Selection Committee 
will choose the 2 postdoc finalists.

MIT will provide the nominations, in the form of the nominees’ CVs (no 
fixed format, but nominees are advised to highlight their research 
interests, education background, awards and key publications) and 
institutional support letters (strongly encouraged), via a dedicated 
GYSS website (address and log-in to be advised later) by *31 August 2014*.


The selected participants will be contacted by the GYSS secretariat to 
complete the registration in phases in Q4 2014.
