MIT Innovation Initiative

MIT raised a generation of talent on a culture that gives permission to innovate. This meant taking risks, breaking rules and challenging the norms. MIT’s culture of innovation has shaped the path of society for generations, but the challenges on the road ahead need to merge innovative thinking with compassion. MIT Innovation Initiative is at a critical point that can chart a path to progress by solving the grand list of “problems” that now face us. But beyond problem solving, they have the unique opportunity to chart a path that looks at problems from points of view beyond science and technology. The Innovation Initiative wants to draw on the extensive expertise available here among MIT faculty, students and postdocs to lay down the framework for developing a “holistic” problem solving culture, which marries a robust technological road map with the economics, politics, and ethics needed to optimize the future. This initiative aims to infuse innovation as part of our every day lives at MIT to serve as the model for “innovation education” for other universities and organizations. This initiative should transcend MIT’s campus to engage young inventors and entrepreneurs across the globe and transform these ideas into practice.

Specifically, we will engage in the following activities:
• Understand, monitor and actively (as well as publicly) map MIT's innovation ecosystem
• Enhance and improve current innovation institutions and programs
• Create new innovation programs to address and target weaknesses in MIT's innovation ecosystem.
