Dear MIT Postdocs:
Dr. Natalie Lundsteen (MIT Global Education & Career Development) has
sent along the information below about MIT's new institutional
subscription to the Versatile PhD (www.versatilephd.com), with a new
focus on the site on STEM content.
As MIT Postdocs you may also access this site.

Versatile PhD
<http://versatilephd.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=login-redirect> is a
robust resource on non-academic careers for grad students, designed to
help students identify and prepare for careers beyond academia.
Some of the many informative options available to you on this website:
* Read first-person stories written by real PhDs and ABDs who have
established non-academic careers
* Join a thriving, supportive web-based community and dialogue with
"Versatile PhDs" in and outside the academy.
* Completely confidential. No one at MIT, or any other university,
will know you are on this website unless you tell them.
Through the generous support of the Office of the Dean for Graduate
Education, MIT students, postdocs and alumni now have access to

Premium Content, which includes:
* *Hiring Success Stories* -- authentic, successful non-academic job
application materials showing how Masters, PhD and ABD in a variety
of disciplines got non-academic jobs straight out of the academy.
Compare their CVs with their successful resumes; read their clear,
helpful explanations of how they got the job; see what advice they
have for you from their personal experience.
* *Career Autobiographies *-- first-person narratives by people with
similar backgrounds to yours, describing how their careers developed
after they left the academy. See where others who came from PhD
programs have ended up; learn what they like and love about their
non-academic careers; get a sense of the many twists and turns that
can shape your professional destiny.
* *Career Panels* -- richly informative panel discussions about
specific non-academic careers. Each panel discussion features 3-5
panelists, all of whom are Masters, PhD or ABD in a wide range of
disciplines, and all working in the specific career being discussed.
Career paths covered include Federal Government, Freelance Writing
& Editing, Policy Analysis, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and
Higher Education Consulting -- all good careers for people with
graduate degrees.
Please note: You'll have to register the first time you access the
