<http://gecd.mit.edu/sites/default/files/handbook.pdf>Dear MIT Postdocs,
The following resources may be helpful to you in addition to our regular
presentations:
(1) MIT's updated (2012-13) *Career Development Handbook*
http://gecd.mit.edu/sites/default/files/handbook.pdf
This guide is from MIT's Global Education and Career Development office
and is full of information on career planning, the job search, writing
an effective CV, and other. GECD's counseling services are currently
only open to students, but this handbook and other resources are helpful
and available to postdocs.
(2) The *Writing Center* http://writing.mit.edu/wcc is open to postdocs.
You can schedule an appointment for advice on *CVs*, grant
proposals, teaching and research statements, articles, and more.
(3) MIT's *Postdoctoral Mentoring and Advising Toolkit*
<http://web.mit.edu/mitpostdocs/toolkit/> (information and forms for
postdocs, supervisors, and mentors)
(4) *The Individual Development Plan (IDP) for Graduate Students and
Postdocs in the Sciences http://myIDP.sciencecareers.org* was recently
launched on ScienceCareers.org as a *free, interactive, web-based tool*.
It is designed to help you set and achieve long-term and short-term
career goals, and provides you with a clear process for exploring
options and tracking your progress. For more information about the
tool, see the editorial published in Science Magazine written by Bruce
Alberts, Editor-in-Chief of Science, and Jim Austin, Editor of
ScienceCareers.org.
