keynote address, "Diving Boards and Mars Landers: Exploring Uncharted 
Career Opportunities"

There are many career options open to postdocs.  The trick is to 
determine what it is you really like to do, and then find someone 
willing to pay you for doing it.  This takes some effort, involves some 
risk, but is worth it---both for what you learn about yourself, and the 
careers that open up to you.


  We are pleased to welcome keynote speaker Laurel L. Haak, PhD, 
Executive Director at Open Researcher & Contributor ID (ORCID).  Dr. 
Haak has experience as a scientific researcher, science writer and 
editor, science policy analyst, and as a project manager. She has worked 
in government and non-profit organizations including AAAS, the US 
National Academies, and the US National Institutes of Health. She has a 
PhD in neuroscience from Stanford University Medical School, and 
conducted postdoctoral research at the NIH.
