JSPS is a Japanese research funding agency. JSPS supports all research
fields, such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology,
computer sciences, biomedical sciences, humanity and social sciences
etc. JSPS's main missions are (1) to distribute research grants; (2) to
provide fellowships to Japanese young researchers; (3) to carry out
international programs; and (4) to support university reform. Through
its third mission, in addition to the international cooperative programs
which JSPS runs with nearly 90 overseas counterpart agencies such as NSF
