The Writing and Communication Center (12-132) offers free individual
consultation about any writing difficulty, from questions about grammar
to matters of style, including difficulties common to writers, such as
overcoming writer's block, organizing papers, revising one's work, or
presenting scientific and technical information. The Center's
professional lecturers help with theses, articles and books for
publication, conference presentations, teaching and research statements,
CVs, applications, course papers, slides, and oral presentation skills
(how to write a speech, how to use visual aids, how to conduct oneself
when presenting scientific or nonscientific information). Clients may
visit the Center during any stage of the writing process: prewriting,
writing a first draft, revising, or editing. The Center is a teaching
institution; it is not a proofreading service. The Center aims to teach
writing as a process, to clarify and promote techniques of good writing.
The Center provides specialized help to those for whom English is a
second language. All appointments are made online. Go to the Center's
website **http://writing.mit.edu/wcc/appointments and follow the
directions to schedule appointments.*
