Job Description
Summary
Our Strain Advancement Group has an opportunity for a Scientist with a
background that includes microbial physiology and bacterial genetics to play
a key role in the company's in-house microbial strain improvement program.
The successful candidate will utilize a combination of genetic engineering
and traditional mutagenesis approaches to generate strains designed to
improve performance and robustness in the production process and, on an
ongoing basis, to generate new knowledge about the biology of the producing
organism.
Specific Responsibilities
Design and execution of directed evolution experiments and
screening strategies
Perform chemical mutagenesis
Physiological evaluation of improved strains
Media preparation, growth and maintenance of cultures for
experiments
Analyze data, prepare scientific reports and present internally and
externally, as required
Other standard microbiological activities
Skills and Requirements
Qualified candidates will have the following background:

* PhD in Microbiology or directly related field with 1-2 years related
postdoctoral experience

> · Expertise in microbial physiology and/or bacterial genetics,
> preferably with clostridial species · Experience in traditional
> mutagenesis (NTG, EMS) · Statistical knowledge and practice (designed
> experiments, sampling plans, ANOVA and regression) · Experience with
> molecular biology and system biology is strongly desired · Demonstrated
> analytical and organization skills, experience writing SOP¹s, scientific
> reports, and writing/delivering presentations
