Scientific and Technical Writing
Description
Preparing written documentation is one of the most critical aspects
of a technical specialist's profession. Scientists, researchers,
engineers, technicians, and other technical specialists require
effective writing skills to share information with peers, to inform
management of the progress and conclusions of their research, and to
persuade sponsors to fund new research. The two chief objectives of
this course are to enable the technical specialist to overcome
barriers to efficient writing and to develop a systematic approach to
organizing and preparing complex technical material to meet the needs
of a diverse audience. All lessons include practical exercises. On
the final day, participants receive critical feedback on their own
writing.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
*	Develop an efficient, systematic approach to organizing and
preparing complex technical information.
*	Analyze various target audiences and thus prepare documents
that meet the needs of diverse readers.
*	Structure complex technical documents.
*	Write and edit clear, concise, and persuasive technical prose.
*	Select and edit critical material for the preparation of
abstracts and executive summaries.
*	Control technical language.
*	Recognize and correct weaknesses in one's own writing.
