Forward to Professorship

September 30 - October 1, 2005

MIT Faculty Club

FORWARD* in SEM focuses on reaching women for academics, research and 
development in science, engineering and mathematics. This workshop is 
provided for graduate students and postdocs considering academic 
positions as well as junior faculty who are currently on tenure 
track in science, engineering or mathematics. Graduate students 
should be in the advanced stages of PhD work, with graduation 
anticipated by 2007. The 1 1/2 day workshop will focus on skills, 
strategies and "insider information" necessary to obtain a 
tenure-track position, successfully advance to tenure, and negotiate 
other positions of leadership. This is also an opportunity to network 
and meet peers.

Attendees will learn how to:

     Make effective use of their time to tenure

     Secure research funding

     Navigate the tenure-track process

     Publish journal articles

     Apply and negotiate for a position

     Get the most out of teaching
