Can Scientists Speak Truth to Power? Issues in US Energy Policy
Scott Olson, Energy Delivery and Management Consultant, Nexant, Inc
Monday, November 1
6:30 PM
MIT Bldg 4 Rm 231 (http://whereis.mit.edu)
There are many who say "US Energy Policy" is a bit of an oxymoron. This
talk will center on the key projects and initiatives developed by the US
government in the last decade, and what the impact to the US energy market
has been. It will also look at the items currently on the table that will
shape the supply of transportation fuels and generation of electricity in
the 21st century. The discussion will also include an exploration for how
energy policy is made and how you can become involved.
Scott Olson has been engaged in all facets of the energy industry during
his 8 years of private, public, academic, and consulting experience. He
worked in the process engineering, economic optimization, distribution,
and planning fields during his 5 years in the petrochemical industry,
developing extensive knowledge of industry operations ranging from a plant
level to the impacts of global affairs and policy. He is currently
employed with the energy consulting firm Nexant in San Francisco. His
most recent project areas at Nexant have included coal and
biomass gasification, carbon sequestration, clean fuels production and
distribution, and policy analysis to assist in greenhouse gas emission
reductions. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of
Minnesota and a Masters in Public Policy from UC Berkeley.
