Hi everyone,
Details from the Fairfield/Greater Birmingham Habitat affiliate are below. This seems to be the best option for IAP, but if the rate ($100 per person per week) or anything else is unacceptable, I can look for more.
I'm unsure how to go about determining where the general body meeting should be. Can I just pick a room in the Infinite that is normally empty? Or something else?

Hey there, Camille.
We would love to have your group the week of Jan 16 - 22.
To stay in our volunteer center, the rate is $20 per night/per person,
or $100 per week. This helps offset our utilities for the facility,
paper goods, as well as contribute to support the materials used.
The center can sleep 60 people in bunkbeds. The room is divided
male/female and has a common area with a TV, DVD player, etc. There is a
commercial sized kitchen with two refrigerators, stoves, coffee makers,
basic cooking supplies, etc. We provide paper goods/utensils for meals
throughout your stay. There are two washers/dryers as well as male and
female restrooms with multiple showers in each.
I will go ahead and pencil 30 slots onto our calendar for January 16-22,
and you can send revised numbers after this week. Does that work for
you?
Beth

Hello,
We would be more interested in coming independently, rather than through
the Collegiate Challenge. Our group will likely be of fewer than 30
people, though I will have more exact numbers in a week's time. Either
of the two weeks immediately following January 15th would be excellent,
though we might prefer the week from January 16-22.
Are there any costs associated with the housing, or anything else of
note?
Thank you so very much.
Sincerely,
Camille DeJarnett

Good morning, Camille-
We would love to have a group from MIT come to serve in January. We
will
have new construction and repair opportunities going on at that time.
Julie Howard, our volunteer coordinator, is out today so I am jumping
in
to provide you some information.
Are you interested in participating in the official Collegiate
Challenge
program through Habitat for Humanity International? Or coming to
volunteer independently?
We have a volunteer center that can house up to 60 people. How large
of
a group do you anticipate, and what week are you considering? The week
of January 9-15, our volunteer center is housing groups from
University
of Wisconsin and the University of Illinois. The other weeks look
good.
We will be starting a new construction home on Saturday, January 15
(MLK
weekend) and could really use a team of volunteers either of the two
weeks following that house's start if that works for you.
Thanks for your interest in coming to Birmingham. I am attaching our
Collegiate Challenge packet of information on our affiliate/program
for
your review. Let us know what you think. We would love to have you
help
with the housing needs in our town.
Thanks!
Beth

Dear Ms Burch,
My name is Camille DeJarnett and I am a member of the executive
board of Habitat for Humanity at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. As the Institute allows its students the option to take
the
month of January off as an Independent Activities Period, our group
was
interested in planning a week-long service trip during this break.
I contact you as I wonder whether it is possible that your
Habitat affiliate has any projects on which ours might work during
January. We would be most grateful for the opportunity and fully
prepared to assist in any desirable manner upon arrival.
Sincerely,
Camille DeJarnett
