Subject: invitation to March 10 Strategic Communication event
To: servicegroups at mit.edu
Having trouble motivating your service group members to attend meetings?
Wondering why the student you tutor doesn’t seem to respond to multiple
teaching techniques? Curious about how to communicate more effectively with
potential sponsors and donors?
Join the Public Service Center for a special event on strategic
communication as applied to public service and learn how to address
situations like these. This event will take place on March 10 from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m. in Room 4-231. RSVP online by **March 5** by filling out the Google
form (
https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dEZybEFnQklHanpWdTA1ald2N1NVWEE6MA)
to guarantee your attendance; you can also submit difficult service
situations you've encountered in the past to have them considered by our
speaker, Dr. Lori Breslow. Dr. Breslow will work some of your examples of
difficult situations into her presentation.
More information about the event is below. Please direct any questions to
Caroline Huang at cjhuang at mit.edu.

*Strategic Communication: The How, When, and Why*
Thinking about your communication strategically will help guarantee that
your messages--whether face-to-face, in writing, or through a
presentation--accomplish their purpose. Strategic communication is no more
complicated than analyzing your audience, purpose, and credibility
*before*you speak or write, but it can mean the difference between
messages that
fall flat and those that succeed.
Lori Breslow has taught management communication in the Sloan School for
both undergraduates and MBAs. She is director of MIT's Teaching and Learning
Laboratory.
