Hi guys,

One of the volunteers from the Beaver Dash emailed me, saying that he really
enjoyed helping out at the 5K and that he was interested in becoming more
involved in Habitat. Since he was so great at the 5K - enthusiastic,
capable, helpful - Clarissa and I decided to offer him the opportunity to
apply to Habitat exec, probably as a co-event coordinator (or a different
position if we can think of one).

Below is his application. Clarissa and I are interviewing him tomorrow
(Tues) at 4pm in the Coffeehouse (Student Center, 3rd floor). Please come
if you are available! Many of you probably met Scott at the Beaver Dash,
but it's important that we all decide if we should offer him a position on
exec.

-Grace

Ms. Lee:

Here is my application for the MIT Habitat for Humanity Executive Board. I
have also attached my resume listing my involvement throughout my four years
of high school. If you have any questions or need any additional
information, please feel free to contact me via email, scottl at mit.edu, or
cell phone, 903.272.7132. Thank you very much for this opportunity.

1. Biographical Info

Name: Scott Landers
Email: scottl at mit.edu
Class year: 2013

2. Why do you want to be involved in Habitat for Humanity?

I've always heard of Habitat for Humanity, but there were no opportunities,
that I knew of, back in my hometown. I grew up with my grandfather teaching
me how to build things with my hands, everything from simple tools to full
sized buildings. I would love to be able to use this knowledge and
experience by sharing it with those who can truly benefit from it.

3. What position(s) are you applying for? Please explain your interest in
those positions, as well as your qualifications.

I'm not sure what positions are available, but I would be willing to help
out with pretty much anything. I usually serve best as a catch all person
just filling in where help is needed as it's needed. Just let me know.

4. What previous leadership experience do you have? What, if any, community
service have you participated in before?

All through high school I held multiple leadership positions in many
organizations. Last year I was Area FFA President of 6,000 members and 90
schools. Our officer team was in charge of planning events that hosted
anywhere from 20-1000 people. I was also a member of the Beta Club, through
which, student members participated in multiple community service projects
benefiting our school and community. A few projects included school-wide
recycling bins and improving school structures by applying a new coat of
paint.

5. What ideas do you have for on- and off-campus events?

Some ideas for promoting MIT habitat could include asking MIT's radio
station if we could have a representative from habitat go on the air
beforehand and talk about our bigger events to reach a larger audience.
Also, we could promote the habitat 5Ks to other local universities (BU,
Harvard, etc) who would like to participate (possibly a joint effort with
their habitat chapters?). Lastly would be some kind of Habitat christmas
tree on Kresge where students or other organizations could make a small
donation to put their ornaments on the tree? These are roughly brainstormed
ideas, hope they help.

6. What other activities are you involved in or planned to be involved in
this year?

I am involved with the Steel Bridge contest, which is sponsored through the
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We meet once per week
(Tuesday nights) to design our project. I am also part of Christians on
Campus. We meet twice per week (Tuesday afternoons and Friday nights). This
leaves me available on mid-day Sundays!...=)

Respectfully,
Scott Landers
