Dear Hannah,
Greetings from Habitat for Humanity Kenya.
Thank you for your email – we are glad that the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology Habitat for Humanity club would like to sponsor a house in Kenya.
Currently, a HFH Kenya house is costing US $3,400, but since we help our
homeowners build decent houses in stages/incrementally, a full house may
take a while to finish. However, with $3,400, HFH Kenya is able to finance
construction of various houses that are at different levels. For instance,
one homeowner can get a loan for building the foundation of a house, while
another can get a loan to build the walls, roof etc. In summary, HFHK can
use the full house sponsorship donation to serve various families whose
houses are either under construction or are just commencing construction.
Similarly, we are working with the internally displaced persons (IDPs), who
were left homeless following the post-election skirmishes in 2007. These
people are living in tents since their displacements and have no livelihood
means. HFH Kenya has been looking for well wishers to support this
project. So far, 83 houses have been constructed, but many more families
are still being rained on in tents. Each 3-roomed house costs US $2,400.
For more information about both our incremental IDP housing projects, please
visit our website – www.hfhkenya.or.ke
Also, attached is our current newsletter and brochures.
Please share our gratitude with the club members.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Anne Njuguna

Hello,
My name is Hannah, I'm on the Executive board of the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology Habitat for Humanity club and I'm writing to tell you we are
interested in sponsoring a house in Kenya. We'd be very interested to see
how the money is used and report back to our supporters on campus. Would you
be able to give us some information so we could get start the process of
sponsorship? Thanks.
