This IAP, the MIT Leadership Center and the Office of Student Life Programs
are offering you a new resource for training and transitioning your student
group's rising leaders. This 6-session seminar series promises to be an
excellent opportunity to prepare incoming leaders for the challenges
they'll face in their new positions - specifically, they'll learn about
recruiting for your group, effective marketing skills, and how make
positive changes on campus.
The curriculum was designed with substantial input from members of the
student body and will be taught by world-renowned faculty from the Sloan
School of Management. Imagine how useful it would be if you started your
term as president knowing even half of what you know now! "Leading and
Changing Campus Organizations" is meant to help incoming officers learn
many of the practical skills that generally come with months of experience,
by providing:
+ Assistance in discovering their personal leadership style
+ Strategies for combatting member apathy
+ Tips on how to harness a vision and turn it into a reality
+ Practical strategies for successfully marketing and recruiting for your group
As an outgoing president, you are also welcome to attend this series - not
only will you learn about how to ensure continuity in chapter projects and
initiatives once your term has ended, but you'll be able to actively work
with your student group's incoming leadership and prepare for a great
spring term.
What are the next steps?
Anyone who is an incoming leader in your group (or who wants to be one)
should register to attend this series. Enrollment is open, but advanced
registration is required. To register for the course, send your name to
Tracy Purinton (<mailto:purinton at mit.edu>purinton at mit.edu).
Make sure you let your student group know about this lecture series ASAP.
Especially make sure your incoming officers and executive boards know about
the series.
