Hey everyone,
I hope you all had a fantastic IAP! The Habitat workday in January went off
very well, with only minor transportation headaches. =) We also have a new
webmaster, Matt Zedler... Everyone say "Yay Matt!" He's put the pics up on
the site, and updated a lot of the information. Check it out at
http://web.mit.edu/habitat/www/.
Also, I propose that we have the first meeting of this term next week,
Thursday February 12th, at 8pm. As usual, it will be on the third floor
Student Center Mezzanine lounge. Let me know if you can't make it. It's
scheduled for that day because it's the only day both Sid and I can make.
However, if enough people can't make it, we will reschedule.
And finally, the major items on the agenda for next week:
As most of you are probably aware, Matt Debergalis emailed regarding the
old Habitat tools. I'm going to try and pick them up from him this weekend.
However, storage is *still* an issue. If anyone has space to store the
tools, let me know. Otherwise, I'll keep them somewhere in Next House, but
it may not be very secure... =/
I also ran into Amber Jaycocks, the previous workday coordinator, and she
is back on campus after a 1 semester break. She's interested in helping
with the Campus Build, so I think it would be really awesome if we started
planning that and got in touch with her. Neha, Anne, if she hasn't gotten
in touch with you already, her email is arj at mit.edu. We have lots of money
allocated by finboard for this event, so it would be *really* good if we
could actually do it this term.
Also, I need to know if there is still interest in planning the kids 5K...
If so, we will have to come up with a plan of action, start writing grants
to get financial support, get in touch with local schools, and talk to the
City about getting space. I think it would be a particularly good idea,
because Neha is the Youth United educational outreach person... We could
even try and get the other YU chapters involved, if there was interest.
Something to think about...
Also, I think I sent you all the email about HabiFest (if you don't have
it, let me know and I'll send it again). The question is, do we want to get
involved? It's a great chance to promote Awareness... and it might provide
a good context for Campus Build. But it's also a potentially time-consuming
event, and might not be well suited to the apathetic MIT lifestyle.
And finally, we'll have to talk about the potential fall concert fundraiser
for next year. Sid's done a lot of work looking into that, so we should
discuss whether it's something we can and want to do.
I'm sorry this was so long. Kudos to anyone who read it all. Everyone else,
I'll talk about it all again on Thursday... =)
-Radhika, your verbose co-prez...
