So we're registered for the International Development Forum which will be
taking place on October 3rd. Info is below. We will need to begin planning
for this and working out shifts, etc. Not urgent, since we have some time,
but something to think about. -Radhika

>Dear contact person for a group registered for the 2nd Annual MIT
>International Development Forum,
>This email contains all (I hope) the info you'll need to prepare for the
>October 3rd IDF. Some of this info you may have read before, but some is
>new, so please keep reading!
>
>We are very excited about this event, and we hope that you will find it to
>be a helpful way to promote your work, connect with members of the MIT
>community who share your values and concerns, and deepen your own
>understanding of the complex process that is "development." If, after
>reading this, you still have questions, please do not hesitate to call me
>or another member of the planning team (listed below).
>
>Thanks & see you soon, Amy
>
>
>The goal of the Forum is to inspire and inform MIT students to do
>development-related work and to help them link with others who are about
>this work. early in their MIT career. The event is free and open to the public.
>
>The "development midway" will take place in Lobby 10 and Lobby 13. Each
>group/program/lab/etc. will have half-a-table, and a chair for a
>representative. If you need an easel, access to electricity, or have any
>other logistical needs, please contact Trish Weinmann ASAP
>(weinmann at mit.edu or 3-0108) and she will work with you to make sure you
>have what you need.
>
>The schedule for the afternoon is as follows:
>
>noon - 1:30pm -- Set up for the Development Midway
>1:30 - 3:30pm -- Development Midway
> International foods buffet (snacks) provided during midway
>3:30ish -- clean - up
>3:45pm -- snacks provided outside 10-250
>4:00pm -- Keynote Speaker in 10-250 (Speaker TBS very soon!)
>
>When you arrive to set up, you will find a member of the IDF team in Lobby
>10 ready to tell you where your table is and check you in. We will print
>maps showing where all the groups are for your use and the use of all
>those who attend.
>
>As you know, there is a lot of traffic on through Lobby 10 between noon
>and 1pm. To capitalize on this, we encourage you to go ahead and set up
>your display early, even if a representative cannot be there until later.
>But you may wait until closer to 1:30pm if you wish or if your schedule
>dictates this. Snacks will arrive near the "official" start of the event
>(1:30) and another round of snacks will materialize about an hour later.
>
>We encourage you to not just sit behind your table, but to be out front
>greeting students, engaging them in conversation, helping them to think
>about how best to engage with development issues, and answering their
>questions.
>
>Some things you might want to include in your display are: a stand-up
>display board with information about your group/lab/program (your mission,
>photos, other graphics that help clarify what you're about, web site),
>handouts or brochures for students to take with them, a sign up sheet for
>your email list or membership, your personal business cards, laptop with
>presentation or other appropriate means of communicating your work.
>
>All groups who participate in this event will also be listed in a "Guide
>to International Development Work at MIT," which will be available in hard
>copy at the event and thereafter on the IDF website.
>
