Good afternoon,
Today Apple released its latest operating system, macOS Mojave (10.14). Please note that soon all Macs purchased from Apple will come with macOS Mojave preinstalled; previous versions of the OS cannot be installed. This email provides information about upgrading to the latest OS release, please feel free to share this with any staff in your DLC who do upgrades.
What’s new
* macOS Mojave: https://www.apple.com/macos/mojave
* Safari 12<https://developer.apple.com/safari/whats-new/> will no longer allow NPAPI plug-ins except for Adobe Flash. Other plug-ins such as Java will no longer run. For people who need to access Java, please use IS&T Citrix<https://ist.mit.edu/citrix/all> and select Internet Explorer or Firefox from the application menu. Safari 12 is also available for macOS 10.13.6 and 10.12.6.
* Please note Apple will remove the ability to install and use 32-bit applications in a future release<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436>. Apple has not announced an exact timeframe for this change.
Known Issues
* Go to the macOS Mojave Known Issues page<http://ist.mit.edu/macos/1014> to check for software compatibility. Staff should consult with their department’s IT support provider to determine when to upgrade.
Before you upgrade to macOS Mojave
* Before performing any upgrade, always back up your computer using CrashPlan<https://ist.mit.edu/crashplan/> or the backup system provided by your local IT support provider (e.g., local Time Machine backup).
* MIT-owned machines should be upgraded by downloading macOS Mojave from the Apple App Store or via Jamf Pro for managed Macs.
