[Macpartners] [csail-related] How Do You Send A Fax?

We have a standalone konica all in one from copy tech (a service contract). It is fabulous.
Staff email addresses can be part of the setup and then you can scan/send to a chosen email address.
It is so reliable and efficient and has fewer problems than other printers (so far).

Afaik mit does not have a central subscription. Some labs do, so you can ask your Admin. However, try checking you local copier. With at least two of the labs I've Benin affiliated with, the local scanner/copier also worked as a fax machine.

Hi Elmer-

I’m not aware of any secure online fax services that MIT has a subscription to. There are certainly services out there, such as RingCentral or MyFax, but I have no idea if they are secure or not. I’d be curious to know how it works out if you do end up looking into one of those services.

I would feel stupid asking this question if it was 1992, but after 25 years, isn't there an easier way?

Our lab has an old fashioned fax machine that still works, along with a collection of antique rotary dial telephones that share its analog phone line. The old phones are fun to play with, but the fax machine is a nuisance to use on those rare occasions when I need to send a fax.

I'd like to be able to send a PDF directly to a fax number, as I would with an email. I know there are online services (some free, some not) that do this, but are those services secure? Does MIT have a safe and secure fax service available to the community?

Thanks,
