[Macpartners] IS&T Retires OS X 10.7 Lion: Users should consider upgrading to OS X 10.10

Good afternoon,

As of this last month, Apple has stopped providing security and stability updates for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Since safe computing is a top priority here at MIT, IS&T will no longer test or develop applications for OS X Lion and strongly encourages users to consider upgrading to Mac OS X 10.10  Yosemite. Users can <http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/zCUYCQ> upgrade<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/dYwwCQ> to OS X Yosemite directly from OS X 10.6.8 or higher, free of charge, provided their machine(s) meet the minimum system requirements. Prior to upgrading, Staff should check with their department’s IT support provider to determine when to upgrade. Check the Yosemite Known Issues Page<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/-nAYCQ> in the IS&T Knowledge Base for software compatibility.

Users on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X 10.9 Mavericks will still receive crucial security updates, however, Apple is only releasing stability and application fixes for OS X 10.10 Yosemite, the current version of OS X.

How to Obtain OS X Yosemite

MIT offers OS X Yosemite at no direct cost to DLCs, for faculty, staff, student and affiliate use.
You can download OS X Yosemite from <http://ist.mit.edu/macosx/109> IS&T’s Software Grid<http://ist.mit.edu/macosx/1010> without the need to register for or use an existing Apple ID.
