Good Afternoon,
Information Services & Technology (IS&T) will be retiring the legacy VPN server (vpn-public.mit.edu) this coming October.
When
Friday, October 12, 2012
Who Is Affected
Anyone that currently uses vpn-public.mit.edu to remotely connect to MIT’s via VPN.
Note: Those currently using the Cisco AnyConnect (vpn.mit.edu) client on a PC, Mac and/or mobile device are not affected by this change.
Why
The decision to retire vpn-public.mit.edu was made based on the following criteria:
* A newer VPN appliance has been in place for over one year (vpn.mit.edu)
* The newer appliance provides better security for end-users
* Cisco ended support for the hardware and software utilized by vpn-public.mit.edu on 8/31/12
More Information
More information about our current, support VPN client (AnyConnect), including installation instructions, can be found on the IS&T website: http://ist.mit.edu/cisco-anyconnect/all.
Questions
If you need additional assistance with connecting to MIT's network via VPN, please contact your local IT support liaison or IS&T’s Computing Help Desk (http://ist.mit.edu/help<http://ist.mit.edu/cisco-anyconnect/all>).
Thank you,
Andrew Munchbach
