Good Morning,
Information Services and Technology (IS&T) is pleased to announce support for FileMaker 12 for Macintosh and Windows at MIT. IS&T will continue to support FileMaker 11 users, but will be discontinuing support for FileMaker 10.
To learn more, see FileMaker at MIT<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/istcontrib/FileMaker+at+MIT+-+New+and+Supported+Features> – New and Supported Features<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/istcontrib/FileMaker+at+MIT+-+New+and+Supported+Features>.
Important Information about Converting to FileMaker 12
FileMaker 12 employs a new file format, the first since the upgrade from version 6 to version 7. While far less involved than the previous file format change, conversion to FileMaker 12 merits planning and testing, particularly in multi-user environments.
Because FileMaker 12 is not backward compatible with earlier versions, users should have a full conversion plan in place before installing FileMaker 12 on client machines and before converting existing files.
IS&T recommends that, for complex systems, users aim to complete their migration within 12-18 months. Less time will be needed for local stand-alone solutions.
Please see FileMaker Pro and Server 12 -The Conversion Process<http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/istcontrib/FileMaker+Pro+and+Server+12+-+The+Conversion+Process> for recommended conversion steps. If you have conversion-related questions not answered by this document, contact the Departmental Consulting and Application Development (DCAD<mailto:dcad at mit.edu>) Team.
New Features
FileMaker 12 has some valuable new features, including new layout tools and themes, easier charting and new container storage options.
