Exit mail, then restore the ewsmbox from you backup folder Macintosh HD/Users/Username/Library/Mail/EWS-j_morris at oa.exchange.mit.edu<mailto:HD/Users/Username/Library/Mail/EWS-j_morris at oa.exchange.mit.edu> in time machine, then drop it into the Mailboxes folder and change the extension from ewsmbox to mbox.
The open mail again and select the mailbox in your "On My Mac" mailboxes and choose "Rebuild" from the mailbox menu. All mail will be there shortly.
If you leave the ewsmbox extension, mail will see nothing in the folder. Very simple trick.

I mistakenly deleted a folder on Exchange today, but I do have a recent time machine backup of my Mail folder that contains the messages I need back. The files I'm referring to are stored in Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Mail/ and I can't figure out a way to get the messages back into Mail.
I thought if I could import them into a local mailbox rather than my Exchange mailbox, I could then copy them up to the Exchange mailbox.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be forever grateful.
