Earlier today, Apple released Mac OS X 10.5.7. Apple does their best to
test each update before making it public, but problems may still occur.

For example, IS&T's initial testing has found an issue related to
installing the MIT Certificate Authority (CA). Users installing the
MIT CA
for the first time will need to make additional configurations or Safari
will warn that it is unable to verify a website's identity when visiting
some MIT secure websites. Detailed instructions on how to do this can be
found here:

   http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/6DBB

This problem does *not* impact users who have the CA installed prior to
installing the 10.5.7 update.

To help make the update process go as smoothly as possible, we suggest
the following:

* Have a current backup of all of your data.

* Before upgrading, run the "Verify Drive" option in Disk Utility.

* Quit all open applications before starting the installation.

* Allow the installation process to complete, uninterrupted. Laptop
users should plug in their machine before doing the upgrade.

* After the upgrade, run the "Repair Permissions" option in Disk Utility
to fix any permissions issues that might have been caused the by the
installer.

* If possible, test the upgrade on a non-production machine before
installing it on production hardware.

The update is available either through Software Update (Choose Software
Update from the Apple Menu) or from Apple Downloads:
