I've become a huge fan of Google Reader[1]. Being web-based, it works
from any computer, always has my current reading list and has an
amazing mobile interface. If you're looking for a desktop
application, some popular ones include NewsFire[2] and
NetNewsWire[3]. Both have recently been released as free
products[4,5], and have a loyal following. Safari 2.0 and Mail 3.0
also have built-in rss readers, though they are not as full featured.

If you already use Mail, that might be the easiest way to be notified
of changes without having to setup and run another application. When
a feed's updated, you'll see it listed in Mail as you would a new
message.
