On January 15, 2008, Microsoft released the retail version of
Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Due to significant changes to
Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, Information Services and Technology
(IS&T) recommends that users WAIT and not upgrade at this time.
IS&T ordered the educational version of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008
installation media earlier this month. Once received IS&T will send
it via campus mail to software liaisons who represent departments,
labs and centers (DLCs) that are part of MIT's Microsoft Campus
Agreement. A complete list of participating DLCs can be found at:
http://web.mit.edu/ist/topics/software/msca-officeliaisons.html
DLCs that are not part of the program yet and would like to join
should contact liaison-opt at mit.edu as soon as possible.
DLCs choosing not to participate in the Microsoft Campus Agreement for
Microsoft Office Professional Product Suite will be able to purchase
Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 at the academic rate once it becomes
available from GovConnection.
IS&T will initiate a release project for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008
in the coming weeks to evaluate and test the new release and prepare
for future recommendations and support statements.
For more information, please contact swrt at mit.edu.
