Hi,
Retrospect is an evolving product, and the recent versions of
Workgroup and Server Retrospect do support laptops. You would need to
buy an add-on Proactive license for the server and set the laptop
clients appropriately. We have not done this at PSFC, but it is out
there.

When doing restores, you can revert a client to an earlier
"snapshot", which is probably the equivalent of rsnapshot ( I don't
know Unix).

Hi all,

Is there a good tool for backups for a bunch of machines (both
laptops and desktops)? I've been using Retrospect, but I'm looking
for something that is driven from the clients, rather than rely on
the server to call up the clients to tell them to backup.

I also want something that maintains previous states, like
rsnapshot. Speaking of rsnapshot, I could write a custom script, but
rsnapshot doesn't have the ability to write to a remote destination.
I think I could work around that, but it would be nice if there was
something already available.

Has any one else had trouble with rsync (which is used by rsnapshot)
running on OS X?

Thanks,
Ben K
