[Macpartners] 10.4.8 ACPI kernel panic?

I've got a MacBook Pro, tried to apply 10.4.8 update, and now cannot boot 
back into the system.  Any attempts to boot from the Tiger DVD or MacBook 
Pro Install CD 1 produce nothing.  CMD-Opt-P-R 3 times does nothing. 
CMD-Opt-O-F does nothing.  Same kernel panic screen.

CMD-C is useless with either the Tiger or Macbook Pro Install CD.

Google shows widespread failure by others, too.

Any other ideas?
