Hi Macpartners,
I'd like to draw your attention to an Apple-related research effort
underway here at the Laboratory for Nuclear Science. Over the past
year or so we've been putting together an Xgrid cluster and using it
for a variety of high-energy and nuclear physics calculations. These
days we have about 30 fast PowerPC and Intel machines from LNS and
the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. Xgrid is pretty
unsophisticated compared to other batch systems like Condor or SGE,
but it has the great advantage of bring preinstalled on new Macs so
adding new machines to the cluster is a cinch.
We've got a website up and running if you'd like to get involved or
just keep tabs on the project. There's even a little Dashboard
widget tachometer with real-time cluster stats:

If you've never heard of Xgrid before, here's a link to Apple's page
about it:

Regards, Adam
