[Macpartners] VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i for Windows and VirusScan 8.5 for Macintosh Release Announcement

Good afternoon.
Information Services and Technology is pleased to announce the
release and support for VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i for Windows users
and VirusScan 8.5 for Mac OS X users.
VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i for Windows fixes several bugs and includes
these new features:
* McAfee's latest virus detection engine (5100)
* the ability to detect rootkits in memory
* support for multiple sets of virus definition files
* compatibility with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i also provides compatibility with Windows
Vista, which will be useful for testers and early adopters of
Microsoft's new operating system. Windows Vista is not recommended
at this time; see http://web.mit.edu/swrt/releases/vista/wait.html
for IS&T's current Vista support statement.
VirusScan 8.5 for Macintosh (formerly Virex) runs natively on PowerPC
and Intel-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
Other new features include the following:
* McAfee's latest virus detection engine (5100)
* support for scanning Apple Mail mailboxes
* the ability to schedule scans and DAT updates.
Who should upgrade
------------------
Windows users--IS&T recommends that all Windows XP Professional SP2
users should upgrade to VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i to take advantage
of its improved virus detection and feature enhancements.
Mac OS X users--IS&T recommends that all Macintosh users running Mac
OS X 10.4 or later should upgrade to VirusScan 8.5 for Macintosh.
Known Issues
------------
Windows XP users should be aware that if they upgrade to Windows
Vista in the future, they will need to uninstall VirusScan 8.5i
before upgrading and then reinstall.
System requirements
-------------------
VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i for Windows runs on versions of Windows
distributed by IS&T:
Windows XP Professional SP2
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Vista (currently not recommended by IS&T)
VirusScan 8.5 for Macintosh requires a PowerPC or Intel-based
Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger".
