Dear Macpartners,

I have a 3.5" Maxtor external hard drive: model D740X-6L.  Recently  
my desktop has been unable to mount it.  In addition, the green light  
is constantly flickering.  According to some communiques I read on  
the net this is indicative of a power supply failure.  The remedy,  
they say, is to buy a new power suppy and external case and move the  
external hard drive to it.

Does anyone have any advice before I take the plunge?  I gather I can  
buy such a power supply and case at COMPUSA. They go for $50.

Obviously, I would hate to lose the data.
