[Macpartners] Dual-bootable external disk ??

Hey,

You can certainly put two bootable OS X partitions on a single disk for
both Intel and PPC... I use that for diagnosis and imaging of both
platforms.

What do you want the Windows XP partition to do? Boot camp? or is it to
boot a PC?

To make a PPC image... you simply do a full install of OS X on a G4 or
whatever... restart it in target firewire mode... create an image of
that disk (with disk utility) and use net restore to "image" that
partition on the external drive.

Net restore: http://www.bombich.com/software/netrestore.html

(erase target disk, set target as boot disk... don't verify)

Same with an Intel OS X install...

I'm wondering if you can do the same thing with boot camp... I can see
that partition with boot camp of course but I have not attempted to make
an image of a boot camp partition and restore it to another HDD.

To make the multi-boot disk I used disk utility to create three
partitions... PPC, Intel, and Storage.

Perhaps if you boot an Intel Mac off of the Intel boot image on your
external you could install boot camp and create a windows partition like
that... and just do the boot camp install as you normally would... I
mean technically you can use the Mac entirely off of that external so it
should act the same as far as thats concerned.

If that all works than you may be able to boot any PPC (10.4) off of one
partition, boot any Intel Mac into 10.4 off of the second... and if your
lucky you may be able to boot any Intel Mac into Windows XP off of the
third(?) boot camp partition that you created within the Intel OS X
partition on the firewire drive..

Thats my best guess on this... tell me if it works.

I think I might try this right now... :-)

Cheers, and good luck!
