[Macpartners] unable to set default application

Hi,

I'm having an issue with a user who's unable to just click on office 
documents and have them open with the correct application.  When I 
get info on the item, I can see that it's set to a version of office 
which is not installed.

However, when I reset the "open with" and change all, it reverts back 
to the not present version, the problem then pesists.

One note, it appears that when the user has the application open, 
they can click on the office documents and they will open.

Any thoughts on what I might be dealing with?

Some other background info, the computer was setup recently using the 
initial 'transfer' (data/prefs/apps) from the old to new computer 
(via target disc) and went surprisingly well (but no surprise there 
are issues like this to iron out).    Are there steps usually taken 
after such a transfer (repair permissions?) which are advisable?
