[Macpartners] Apple Mail Problems

Although I haven't had these problems, I recently saw this post on TUAW:
http://www.tuaw.com/2006/04/12/mail-slowing-you-down-rebuild-its-
database/
Be sure to read the entire article as there are some caveats to using
the procedure.
Unfortunately, I haven't tried the suggestion but it has apparently
helped others. My Envelope Index is at 4.5 Mb and Mail works as fast
as it ever has. I'm currently using Mail version 2.0.8 (749.3) on
10.4.6.
If you decide to use the suggestion, you might want to backup your
Mail folder first. A fairly useful backup script is written up at
Hawk Wings, http://www.hawkwings.net/2005/11/04/applescript-for-
incremental-backups-of-your-mail-folder/. I've used it before and it
didn't give me any problems.
Both of these suggestions aren't supported by MIT so use them at your
own risk.
