------------------------------------------------

Good day:

IS&T is pleased to announce the release and support for Microsoft Office
2004 for Mac OS X. The Office suite, consisting of Word, Excel and
Powerpoint has been available since November 2004 and is part of the
Microsoft Campus agreement at MIT. For more information on the campus
agreement, please see:
	http://web.mit.edu/ist/services/software/msca.html

It is recommended that Office SP1 and current Office updates be applied
immediately upon installation. Microsoft Autoupdate is installed with
Office 2004 and can be used to receive Office SP1 and other Office updates
as they become available.

Retiring older versions
---------------------------------
As a reminder, Office v.X will be retired on June 30, 2005.

Virtual PC 7
-----------------------------
Virtual PC 7, an emulation of standard PC hardware and operating systems,
is not a recommended or supported product. Virtual PC 7 has been optimized
for the G5 and testing has shown the application to be memory intensive and
performs at an undesirable speed.

Notable Features
------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Auto Update
By default, AutoUpdate keeps your software up-to-date automatically.
AutoUpdate delivers updates directly to your computer as long as you have
an internet connection. You can specify when you want AutoUpdate to check
for updates, and/or do so manually each time you want to check for updates.

Compatibility Reports
With the new Compatibility Report feature in Microsoft Office, you can
check documents that you create in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and
Microsoft PowerPoint for compatibility with other versions of Office
programs to ensure that your documents look the way you want when they are
opened.

Project Gallery
You can quickly find the documents you've worked on recently in the
gallery, and use the new Learn tab to find instructive sample documents.

For a complete list of new features, see Mactopia's Office 2004 Highlights
page:

Known Issues
---------------------------
Adobe Acrobat 6.0
Upon quitting an office application, users may encounter the error message:
"Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec".

PDF Creation
In order to create .pdf files, from Office applications, use the Print
command to print to "Adobe PDF" or use the Mac OS X built-in save as a pdf
command.

Citrix
If you are connected to Citrix and utilize the cut or copy function within
a Word or Excel document, Citrix will crash.

For more information on these known issues or to find solutions, please see
