Good afternoon,

as a follow up to last week's announcement of support for Mail 1.3
under Mac OS X 10.3, IS&T is announcing support for Mail 2.0 under
Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" as well. See Apple's Mail page at
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/mail/ for an overview of its new
features.

IS&T recommends that Macintosh users of Eudora with Post Office
Protocol (POP) who wish to use Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP),
the default method for accessing e-mail at MIT, strongly consider
switching to Mail, which provides a better user experience than
Eudora with IMAP. In addition, IS&T recommends that new students,
faculty, and staff using Macs configure Mail to access their e-mail.

How to Obtain
-------------
As a component of Mac OS X, all Mac OS X users already have a version
of Mail installed. By using Software Update and staying current with
operating system and security updates, users will have the latest
version of Mail. The latest version of Mail currently supported on
Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" by IS&T is 2.0.3, which is installed by
Security Update 2005-007, which requires Mac OS X 10.4.2.

Getting Help
------------
The Mail at MIT page is located at:
http://itinfo.mit.edu/product.php?name=applemail

The Computing Help Desk will provide configuration assistance for new
users of Mail.

Support for migrating Eudora mailboxes to Mail is pending, users
switching to Mail should leave their archived e-mail in Eudora.

If you have a question or need assistance, please contact the
Computing Help Desk at computing-help at mit.edu or x3-1101.
